Birthday Party: July 24, noon to 4 p.m., and 5 to 10:30 p.m.
On July 24, the Norwood Park Historical Society will celebrate the 136th anniversary of the incorporation of Norwood Park with two free events. Both will be held on the grounds of the Noble-Seymour-Crippen House at 5624 N. Newark Ave., Chicago.
First, join the Historical Society for a Mini Civil War Encampment and Living History Interpretation. Kevin Naughton, Civil War re-enactor, representing the 10th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, will pitch his tent and set up camp on the Noble-Seymour-Crippen House lawn from noon to 4 p.m.
His afternoon activities will focus on the daily life of the Civil War soldier, especially on what soldiers did in camp when not engaged in battle. Guests are encouraged to visit him, ask questions, and learn all about the life and times of a Civil War soldier.
Don't miss this opportunity to go back in time to just before the creation of Chicago’s Norwood Park and to talk to a Civil War soldier, and to examine his clothing, equipment, and tent. This event helps kick off America’s celebration of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. This is a free event, and donations will be gladly accepted.
In the evening, join everyone on the grounds of the Norwood Park Historical Society for movie night. Bring your blanket and picnic dinner after 5 p.m., and dine al fresco on the front lawn of Chicago’s oldest home. At 8:30 p.m., the Norwood Park Historical Society will show a comedy. This is a free event, and donations will be gladly accepted.
